Oi ninos,
Wednesday: Last night we were woken up to a very loud rain…except for Julie. Of course we should have known this was coming being in the Amazon. The rain was made even louder because we had a tin roof over our heads but we stayed dry and it stopped after about 15-20 minutes. The morning was a slower one as we did not have anything planned until 2:00 so much of the tam woke up around 9:30. At 2:00 we were going to have a baptism for the church we were staying at in Manacapuru. We left for the lake where the baptism was being held about 11:00. When we got to the lake we had fun playing in the lake, setting up our rede (hammocks) and eating good food. Some of the girls were not keen to one particular item on the plate (a whole, none cut, fish). Needless to say this was interesting for them and a fun new experience. The baptism was scheduled for 2:00, but like much of the Brazilian set times it started a bit later than planned (3:30). The service was a very moving and enjoyable times and afterwards everyone got in the water. An injury update on the team, Ben broke a board while trying to do a front flip into the water and scrapped his foot, but he is ok. After the baptism we left for the church to set up for the night service. We set up a large projector screen to watch “Jesus”. It was a very moving piece and afterwards two individuals accepted Christ into their life! After the service we went out to eat at a local restaurant. While we were there, the Copa de Brazil was on T.V. This is the biggest soccer game in Brazil . Every T.V. in the town was watching the game. While we were at the restaurant the game ended and many of the locals were rooting for the team that one. All at once a spontaneous parade of cars, motorbikes and people came flowing through the streets cheering for their teams win. It was a pretty cool event to witness.
Thursday: Today we got up early and 6:00 to leave for Manaus . We got out at 7:30 and took a ferry back. We arrived at the Seminary around 10:45. We are chilling here until 2:30 when we head to a local orphanage. Unfortunately we will only be able to be with the kids for an hour but we look forward to the time with them. After the orphanage we will head to a local mall WITH AIR CONDITIONING!!!! Our plan is to but a few trinkets for the fam and friends and then head out to eat at a local steak house for our final night in Manaus . It has been a joy to experience God with these people and we are sad to see our time here come to an end. Even though we have been here for less than 2 weeks, the friends we have made will last much longer. The good byes have started already but we look forward to seeing you all soon when we get home.
Thank you for your precious time
